This revolt, led by the Batavians, a warlike tribe inhabiting the delta country of the Rhine River, quickly spread throughout the region, also coming to engulf numerous Celtic clans of central and northern Gaul, whose leaders, having decided that the time was propitious to seek freedom, went as far as declaring independence and forming their own Empire.Whilst most of the Roman troops were in Italy fighting on behalf of one or another of the generals vying to for the Latin throne, the insurrection flowered.

However, soon after the issue of succession had been set to rest in the Empire’s capital, the rebellion quickly started to unravel when well-seasoned Roman troops loyal to General Vespasian were sent north to crush the insurgents. At this time, the German leaders, hoping to keep their ranks from withering, tried to rally some of their northern and eastern cousins to the cause.

But to achieve this objective, they knew that they would have to find a new spiritual leader for the German people: a witch that could revive the sagging morale of their own troops and inspire others to battle. Thus, they opted to, first, look for, and, then, inquire for the favors of a hitherto nearly-known sorceress who could conjure the assistance of the gods in winning the war—all the older witches having been discredited and their images tarnished beyond repair. And so, the search was on.In this part, the events taking place in Rome and in the Roman camps is discussed in greater detail.
